Who am I? by Shelly Cohen

About the .doc-art work: "This artwork is exploring the self. It combines several urban motives such as harshness and edginess of text (Berylium), a city landscape that defines a horizontal header for the piece (the words “I AM” placed to create a structure and using shadow to create fuzziness), grey background (gradient) and red-black color contrasts.
But it is not all gray. Through the eyes of the artist the picture is being filtered a little at the time and live colors penetrate (a picture of an oil painting that was edited with brightness and contrast tools). The eyes of a child are drawn in warm colors and gaze as if from a distance. My paintings are done mostly in oil and reflect live experiences such as traveling and meeting people. I work in a technological oriented environment so I get to use the text editors quite often. With that, creating a .doc-artwork made me investigate new tools and use them creatively".
    The work came from: Israel

.doc-art works - by John Antoine Labadie

The results of my two efforts at using MS Word to produce graphic design products was interesting, a little bit frustrating and, in the end, a total surprise (to me anyway). At this time I need a lot more experimentation in order to advance the possibilities of working with this application".

Text Me - by Adam Zucker

About the .doc-art work: "This text based artwork takes common phrases used in text messages and create the image of a skull with a smiley face emoticon on its forehead. This piece provides a discourse on the way our communication and language has suffered due to text messaging, Twitter and other devices with a limited word count in order to make communication quick, simple and widely available, while ultimately affecting the time spent focused on physical "real" communication within daily contemporary life.
Many of our daily experiences are temporal, yet they have become repeated as ritual, as a habit of function amongst humanity. I am interested in presenting certain rituals and repeated contemporary trends like mass media, industry, popular culture, and social media. I view my work as relics of personal expression commenting on the world I experience around me. The way that I view myself, or feel about my place in the collective environment dictates the expression in my artwork".

      Untitled - by Anne Wölk

About the .doc-art work: "My paper work contains elements of both drawing and Graphic design and my artistic research is strongly influenced by the tradition of British Pop Art. My Drawings are often depictions of introspective states; emotions, inner thoughts, and dreams. I investigate in my work the generation of individual identity; a sense of "self", within the context of culture. Are we "preformed"? To what degree do we "deform" from a natural state, if any, from which we are born? What factors shape us? This paper work represents different aspects of this spectrum, from questioning the existence of an origin, to the different processes we undergo to reach our current state of being".

Since then, her work explores the relationship between cultural plurality and a recycling of pop-culture, by layering different motifs from Science Fiction film stills and quotations from an art historical background, like Symbolism and color-field paintings. Overall she is constantly studying the possibilities of drawing and paint as a medium and trying to push her boundaries.

Geometry of the Universe - by Irina Hrytsiuk

To Me - by Irina Hrytsiuk

About the .doc-art work: "I used different tools of this text editor( AutoShapes, their properties such as a colour and it's changes and some special characters from scripts). And the result: One of them - "Geometry of the Universe". Strange characters that you can see - is a mathematical constant pi in one fontof the program (we have many disputes about this constant and its place at the World History and it was so interesting toexperiment with it).I think everybody can see something new in these familiar geometric figures.       Art is Knowledge - by Oksana Maslova

About the .doc-art work: "Real art is like a good course at the university. One picture can tell you more than a 90 minutes lecture about the world organization and possibilities that it opens to you. What knowledge we value most of all? The one that we search for right at the moment. And if the pictures could only speak… And if the artists could paint with wiords… Well, by the way, let’s open the document".

About the .doc-art work: "Like any artist I like to experiment constantly with other media to help me to take my research to other fields of aesthetic development, this is certainly one of the cases.       Imagine You Are a Browser and You Are Connected to the Internet - by Christine Schörkhuber

Link to the file: (click) and Link to the html code file: (click)

Link to the file: (click) and Link to the html code file: (click)

About the .doc-art work: "If this code would be interpreted by a browser, that is connected to the Internet, the picture would show several portrait pictures in different graphical environments.
Shown in an exhibition space, the Reader lacks the digital equipment of interpretation. So he or she is forced to translate the written text to a picture by him- or herself.
Citing formally Yoko Onos Instruction Pieces, the actual artwork happens in the imagination of the viewer.
The ubiquitous process of translation from written text to an associated picture is a well known activity in every scripture-based society.
In the last decades the Transition from a text-based to a multisensoric and accordingly interactive information system changed the view on the relation of signifié and signifiant.
In the installation context the pictures show a digital artwork in absence of a digital medium. The hand written texts refer to an image that exists only virtual and through that interrogates its meaning in various ways.
The „original digital“ picture can be seen with a little effort in the web. On the presentation page of the website the simple htmlcode of the picture pages can be copied and pasted to a usual text editor program. The file should be saved with the file extension .htm on the hard disk and opened with a browser that is connected to the Internet. The results might be surprising – or surprisingly unsurprising.

    The work came from: Austria
